In 2000 James Lawton became Chief Sports Writer of The Independent and his column is among the most admired and celebrated of the last decade. He has won multiple awards, including Sports Journalist of the Year, Sports Columnist of the Year, Sports Feature Writer of the Year and Sports Writer of the Year, a title he holds currently.
Michael Atherton, former England cricket captain, introduces the collection. Atherton began his first-class cricket career in 1987 and was called up for the first of his 115 Test matches in 1989 taking over the captaincy as a 25-year-old in 1993. He is currently cricket correspondent for The Times. He is also a successful TV and radio commentator.
On Cricket is edited by Ivan Ponting, an experienced journalist and author with more than 30 books to his credit, including Sixty Summers Somerset Cricket Since The War, which he co-authored with David Foot and which won the National Sporting Club’s Cricket Book of the Year award in 2007.
